1. Week 01¶
This week I explored basics of electronics, built simple circuits using battery, buttons and LED. At Fab Lab we explore different conductors: cables, copper film, motors, we have been introduced how Makey Makey baord can work.
I measured the output voltage of a 9V battery with a multimeter to check if it was enough to power the motor.
Then I was thinking about how to connect electronics with art themes, and rememberes about Newtons color weel.
I created a rotating spectrum disc by attaching a printed color wheel to a DC motor and powering it with a lab power supply. The spinning disc creates a visual color blending effect, demonstrating color mixing.
Create the Spectrum Disc Printed a color spectrum in a circular shape. Made a small hole exactly in the center of the disc to fit the motor shaft. Prepare the Motor Selected a small, lightweight DC motor. Identified the positive and negative terminals (with a multimeter). Wire the Motor Attach the Spectrum Disc to the Motor Carefully pushed the motor shaft through the center hole of the disc. Fixed the disc onto the shaft snugly (using a small amount of glue). Connect to Power Supply Connected the motor’s red and black wires to a regulated power supply. Set the output voltage to a safe level (e.g., 5V). Checked polarity: red wire to +, black wire to –.
Test the Setup
Turned ON the power supply. Observed the disc spinning rapidly, blending colors into a nearly white or soft pastel appearance when in motion.
The photo shows the working setup including the motor, disc, power supply, and tools used during assembly.
Spining color weel.¶
For the experiment with Newton`s Color weel I used colorweel, electronic board, cables, button, motor.

Reflection questions: What are the challenges of using electronics in your space? How can you design an activity using electronics that takes into accounts your children age and cultural backgrounds? For 10 years old children we will be carefull and talk about safety.
Explain one successful educational activity in which you collaborated with other educators. What are the advantages and disadvantages of working with other educators? What are the main aspects to take into account to prepare an education activity among 2 or more educators? During art classes we were illustrating fairy-tale, Task was to listen an audio of fairy tale, so I decided to talk with their literature teacher about the best option for children, then we decided to make from illustrations puppets for shadow theatre and have combined lesson-theatre later for children from another classes, so we will work with lights.
I think we will talk to theater and music teacher for this activity. Chalange is to manage time, to understand intersections between learning objectives, as teachers have their lesson plans and timing.
How could you integrate both culturally reflective learning and digital fabrication in your environment? Could you come up with some project ideas using digital fabrication in which cultural diversity of students is highlighted?
It`s not a simple question, there are many levels to think about, students have their own thinking rythm, temperament, emotional responses and motives for learning and doing art projects. The most interesting thing will be collect their ideas about their dreams, what they would like to design if they would be a great designers.
