Welcome to my new Fab Learning academy documentation

Hi! I am David Raabe. I am a grade 5 (ages 10–11) math teacher and robotics coachat The Park School in Brookline, Massachusetts.

I have deep-seeded interests in design and engineering going back to my childhood when I would take apart my Transformers and try to reassemle them. New tools and technologies intrigue me, so I have dabbled in many aspects of digital fabrication, including CNC, 3D printing with FDM and SLA, vinyl cutting, and laser cutting.

Even with the advancements in DF machinery, I still gravitate toward traditional tools for my personal work, which is making automata. The intense focus of making and refining a design by hand is when I feel most present and satisfied, especially when I have to overcome an unforeseen obstacle. As an educator, I want to share that experience with my students, but it is often at odds with their desire to finish and move on.

I hope this course helps me find ways to incorporate DF into projects while preserving the journey of discovery found in hard work.
