About me

Hello! I am Cara Mawson, a Design and Technology teacher at Franklin School in Jersey City, NJ. I teach Digital Design & Fabrication, Engineering Technology, and Astrophysics and Cosmology.

The Franklin Fab Lab is developed around digital fabrication tools including a vinyl cutter, laser cutter, 3D printers, a CNC machine, and woodworking machines.

My background

I was born and raised in South Jersey! I received my BS in Physics and MSc in Engineering at Rowan University. During my education, I worked across several research labs studying experiential engineering education, biophysics, and planetary science.

Previous work

Before teaching at Franklin School, I earned certifications from Project Lead the Way to teach Computer Science for Innovators and Makers as well as App Creators at the middle school level in Phoenix, Arizona. After this, I created a makerspace and K-8 STEM program for a school in Camden, NJ.

For my personal projects, I like to upholster furniture and create digital art.
