About me¶
Hi! My Name is Frank Nix. I am based in Dinslaken working as a member of the school management team of Ernst Barlach Gesamtschule. This is a secondary school which has just founded a school fablab.
Here is an introduction of myself
In addition to my work at school, I have a teaching position at the Ruhr University. I also moderate further training courses for teachers in a team, including on the subject of fablab-networking.

My background¶
I was born in Oberhausen. This city is part of “the ruhr”, germanys biggest industrial belt, where I still live with my family. Born in 1968, I have been a teacher since 1994 (subjects: Maths and Technology) and I also worked as teacher trainer for about ten years. I love to spend my free time taking walks through the woods with my dog or flying above the clouds as a private pilot.
Previous work¶
As a “digital immigrant”, I have always been fascinated by digital devices. The pedagogical dimension of digitality is the subject I am especially interested in. In my opinion we do not have to teach with digital devices, but we have to teach in the manner of digital devices: Independent of location and time, networked, interactive and multimodal. Instead of teaching the right answers, a digital school has to teach our children to ask the right questions. When writing my book “digitality as a principle” in 2023, I heard for the first time about fablabs and this became a perfect example for me how digital learning in a vuca-world should be like.
I have previously written books related to my work as a teacher, including mathematics and technology textbooks. Unfortunately, you probably won’t be able to read them because they are all written in German :-)
