1.1 Maker Culture in Education¶
Fab Learning Academy Global Master Class begins!
There are 5 Educational Fabrication Learning Lab Hubs in the world - Pittsburg, USA; Singapore, Asia; Barcelona, Spain; Dilijan, Armenia and Oulu, Finland.
Kris and Soloman gave me a tour and overview of the Fablab at Aalto University in Helsinki, FI.
I move to the Fab Lab at the University of Oulu in Oulu, FI in January 2025 to work with Ivan Sanchez.
Maker Mindset¶
Consider the change in one’s personal mindset, the mindset of teachers and the students we teach. Shifting the teacher style from ‘Sage on the Stage’ to ‘Guide on the Side.’ Teachers don’t have all of the answers, they encourage risk taking as a valuable learning experiences. An important part of the learning also involves engaging families.
Potentials outweigh challenges in these maker enviroments.
-Students learn and practice the engineering design process.
-Problem process based learning - design based learning.
-Personal connections w/community and the world.
-Students develop maker Ccompetencies
-Teaching content through design
-Identify problems - create solutions and prototypes
