Reflection¶
- Sustainable Practices in Teaching
** Past Sustainable Practices:** * We have not incorporated sustainable practices enough by reusing materials, minimizing waste, but materials are expensive so we try to use as little as possible.
Areas for Improvement
- Reduce reliance on single-use materials.
- Introduce activities that explicitly teach environmental awareness.
-
Digital Fabrication and Sustainability Supporting
Sustainability
Digital fabrication can promote sustainability by: * Allowing precise material use to minimize waste. * Encouraging the design and repair of items instead of disposal. * Using recycled materials for projects.
Actions to Promote Sustainability in Digital Fabrication: * Choose eco-friendly materials like recycled plastic, cardboard or wood. * Optimize designs to use less material. Reuse leftover materials for future projects.
-
Readiness for a Mindset Change
School Readiness Change is possible, but there may be resistance due to a lack of awareness or resources. Schools need a clear plan and examples of success to foster acceptance.
Getting Stakeholder Support
-
Involve parents, administrators, and community partners by showing how changes benefit students.
- Seek grants or partnerships to fund initiatives.
-
Share success stories from other schools as inspiration.
Training Structure for Teachers
-
Introduction: Explain the benefits of sustainable and digital fabrication practices.
- Hands-On Workshops: Teach basic digital fabrication skills and sustainability principles.
- Lesson Integration: Show how to apply these concepts in regular classes.
- Ongoing Support: Provide resources, mentoring, and opportunities to share progress.
