Week 2¶
Assignments¶
- [ ] Vinyl Cutting : [Designed a sticker that reflects my understanding of the maker mindset. I decided to put it on acrylic bases to use as little signs of the current maker step we are doing in class.]
Process¶
- Thinking about what the maker movement means to me.
- Designed in a vector software keywords of the steps I follow when making.
- Imported the vector files to the vinyl cutter software.
- Cut the stickers using the vinyl cutter.
- Used transfer tape to put on acrylics to use as signs of the step to use in the classroom.

Reflection¶
Based on this week experience, What are some opportunties to integrate this technology in the classroom? How do you think it could support your teaching? Signage is the biggest way I think it could support me. Having things labeled and organized leads to a way smoother class.
Shortly describe an educational activity in which you could use a vinyl cutter. Explain how would you implement each one of the steps of the design process model explained in the Master Class. Do not forget to discuss about learning objectives. Utilizing the vinyl stickers as stencils or masks to paint. We would need to go through the background face of discovering what can only be painted using a stencil and the brainstorm the designs itself. The kids would go through vector drawing, vinyl cutting with help and then transfering the vinyl stencil to the object to be painted. The most important part is learning how to identify when this tool can be useful, since many masks of stencils can be made by hand.
In which part of the digital fabrication continuum (DF for kids to DF by kids) would you feel more comfortable? Why? DF by kids. I really enjoy teaching, but I also love guiding and learning. When the students take charge of their project, I can be there as a mentor while also learning together with them to make their project a reality.
