Assignments

  • Task 1: Update “About Me” page on this site.
  • Task 2: Post an introduction video here!
Intro video for FLA 2026-27

Process

  • I used the Windows Camera app to record the video in the FabLab.
  • I used Handbrake to compress the file so it would fit on this site

Reflection

  • Handbrake was a pretty useful tool, and converted the video files quickly. I had to use some trial and error to find the settings that would bring the file size down to around 20MB. I think I ended up converting the file about 4 times until it was right. The suggested settings, while much smaller, were still too large. The second attempt, I switched from the “Fast” to the “Very Fast” preset and tried converting the converted file - this was still too large. I then reduced the dimensions of the video and attempted to run it through again. This time it was VERY small (\~5MB) and I knew I had compressed a compressed file a few times, so the quality was probably bad. I went back to the original file and selected the “Fast 480p” preset, which I thought would also prevent the video from opening in a player that was too wide for the page. This one resulted in a 15MB file and that’s what’s uploaded here.
